The Story of Theatre Glory - A New Chapter Awaits

Unsold as a store horse, the Queen of Canter Banter Racing has notched up six wins, amassing almost £100,000 in prize money along the way! As Theatre Glory retires from racing, we wanted to share with you the story of the mare who’s captured our hearts and taken us on the journey of a lifetime.

Looking back now, it’s hard to believe that no one was willing to part with £5,000 for this beautiful bay filly, especially when you consider the money that’s splashed about in the sales rings today! But, we’re certainly not complaining. This gave us the opportunity to lease Theatre Glory from John and Dennis Noonan at Cregg Stud, with 20 shares available for an enthusiastic bunch of racing fans to go on a journey that would take them up and down the country.

A hardy, no-nonsense mare, this filly out of Fame And Glory X Native Beauty has an undeniable presence. She takes no prisoners, which her groom Matty found out all too well when she broke his nose on the Canter Banter Open Day at Seven Barrows.

From Kelso To The Cheltenham Festival, Racing Memories To Last A Lifetime

Let’s be honest, most people get involved in horse racing syndicates because they want to experience the buzz of owning a winning horse. They want to be part of the biggest race days at Britain’s most iconic National Hunt tracks. Theatre Glory has taken us on this journey, with some extra surprises along the way.

With an almost flawless novice campaign in the bag, the Canter Banter Racing team headed up to the Scottish Borders to take part in the Herring Queen Series Final Mares’ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle. With Nathan Brennan on board, she delivered her best performance yet, winning comfortably off top weight and banking £26,015 for her efforts. A good weekend was had by all! But the fun wasn’t over just yet; we ended the season at Prestbury Park, where she gave her owners something many had long dreamed of – a winner at Cheltenham!

With form figures reading 113111, it was time to mix it with the big guns. While a striking 11-length win in the Warwick Mares’ Listed Hurdle in February with Nico de Boinville on board may have been the standout, Theatre Glory has held her own in open company over the past two seasons. She’s placed in two Grade 2s at Sandown and Ascot, respectively. She also finished an admirable four lengths behind Grey Dawning, this year’s Turner’s Novices’ Chase winner, impressively giving Dan Skelton’s star a stone in less-than-ideal ground. And, of course, she’s taken us to the Cheltenham Festival. While the day belonged to Honeysuckle, the buzz of being in the parade ring and participating in a Grade 1 at the pinnacle of horse racing is a feeling we’ll never forget, and Theatre certainly out-ran her odds, finishing ahead of Nicky Henderson’s other runners, Marie’s Rock and Epatante

A New Chapter Awaits As A Broodmare

While Theatre Glory’s racing career has come to an end, we’re delighted that she’s retired safe and sound. Today, she started her journey back to Ireland to Cregg Stud, where she’ll start her journey to motherhood. She’ll be covered by Order of St. George, the Ascot Gold Cup winner who’s already had success as a stallion with Mighty Bandit. Who knows, maybe her prodigy will be running in Canter Banter silks in the future!
