The Simple Breakdown
Prize money is shared out in set percentages
Owner share – Usually around 75 percent
Trainer – Their regulated percentage
Jockey – A fixed amount based on the rules
Stable staff – A share that filters back to the yard
Industry deductions – Standard fees and VAT
These percentages are not chosen by individual yards or syndicates. They are part of the national structure.
Why It’s Shared
Getting a horse onto the track in winning shape takes a team.
The trainer, the rider, and the staff who look after the horse day in and day out all play a part. Their regulated share is simply a recognition of that work.
Owners still take home the largest slice, because they’re the ones funding the horse, but the model makes sure everyone involved in the performance is looked after.
What Owners Actually Receive
Owners receive around 75%, and if you’re in a syndicate, you receive your percentage of that owner share. So if you own 10 percent of the horse, you get 10 percent of the owner pot.
Everything is handled automatically, so members don’t need to do anything behind the scenes. In syndicates, you’ll usually receive all of our prize money at the end of the yearly term.
A Clear Picture
Owners take the main share, and the rest is divided fairly between the people who helped make the win possible. It keeps the sport balanced and makes the whole process easy to understand once you see how it works.
